Former Edinburg juvenile correctional officer arrested
A former Texas Juvenile Justice Department correctional officer was arrested Tuesday after an investigation revealed she came into sexual contact with a 16-year-old male juvenile, according to a news release from the Office of Inspector General.
Yuliana Mares, 40, of Alamo, has been charged with violation of civil rights of person in custody/improper sexual activity and indecency with a child by sexual contact.
According to the release, the incident happened in February when Mares was working as an officer at the Evins State Juvenile Correctional Facility in Edinburg. Mares is alleged to have had sexual contact by touching the genitals of the victim.
She was booked into the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center and as of Tuesday afternoon she had not received a bond.
