Mamma Mia! brings ABBA’s hits and Greek island charm to Dallas
DALLAS (KDAF) — Mamma Mia! flew into the Music Hall at Fair Park, bringing the sunny isles of Greece and the timeless hits of ABBA to Dallas.
Set on a Greek island paradise where the sun always shines, a tale of love, friendship, and identity is beautifully told through ABBA’s iconic music. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the father she’s never known brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited decades ago.
The musical is the ultimate feel-good show, showcasing the music we all know and love. “Dancing Queen,” “Money, Money, Money,” “Voulez-Vous,” “The Winner Takes It All,” and, of course, “Mamma Mia” are just a few of the songs that will keep you dancing along in your seat while the story unfolds.
Christine Sherrill, as mother-of-the-bride Donna Sheridan, consistently stole the show along with her sidekicks, Carly Sakolove as Rosie and Jalynn Steele as Tanya. The trio were responsible for much of the show’s comedic prowess, particularly during Tanya’s “Does Your Mother Know” — a fun-filled romp with the male ensemble. But beneath the comedy is also emotional depth, as three friends who have known each other for decades relive the nostalgia of their friendship and break out the metallic disco boots one last time.
Amy Weaver plays Sophie, Donna’s daughter and soon-to-be-bride who is desperate to know her father, and is often accompanied by her fiancé Sky, portrayed by Grant Reynolds. The two form a cohesive pair — young, in love, and eager to explore the world.
Though Sophie’s desperation to learn which man is her father leads to some impulsive, awkward decisions (and also leads to some perfect comedic fodder), her desire to learn more about her own identity is the driving plot point, concluding in a simple but touching rendition of “I Have A Dream.”
The musical is a fun, dazzling ride that will sweep you into the story among white-washed walls and shimmering shades of blue — all soundtracked to beloved disco pop that will make you want to sing along. (And be sure to stick around after the cast takes their final bows, you’ll be treated to an ABBA encore — and yes, you can sing along to that!)
Mamma Mia! originally premiered in London in 1999 and on Broadway in 2001. ABBA members Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus were involved in the development of the show from the beginning. Over 70 million people have seen the show worldwide, and a film adaptation starring Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, and Amanda Seyfried was released in 2008.
Mamma Mia! is at the Music Hall at Fair Park through April 27, 2025. Get your tickets at Broadway Dallas here.
