WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — As the weather turns warm and more kittens arrive at local shelters and rescues, one Wichita Falls woman has taken it upon herself to host a drive for much-needed supplies through the end of May.
Stephanie Mescher has spent the past few years volunteering with various animal shelters and rescues around Wichita Falls. But volunteering wasn’t enough; she wanted to do more.
“I’ve always been a huge animal lover, and seeing the number of animals coming into the shelters every year is just heartbreaking,” Mescher said. “So, I wanted to try to do something to help save as many lives as possible, and what the rescues do in the community is just amazing.”
Fanny’s Friends, Emily’s Legacy Rescue, and the City of Wichita Falls Animal Services will all three receive a portion of the donations.
“Kittens can be born all throughout the year, but during the warmer months of the year, it’s known as ‘kitten season’ because there’s a huge influx of kittens coming into the shelter,” Mescher said. “So I saw a need in the community and reached out to local rescues to see what are some of the most needed items during this time of year and then thought I would host a drive for them.”
They asked for kitten food, both dry and wet, kitten formula, heating pads, blankets, cat beds, toys, chicken or turkey baby food, and feeding supplies such as Miracle or Pet Ag syringes.
