Texarkana recognized as one of America’s ‘most welcoming places’

TEXARKANA, Texas (KETK)– Texarkana has been named as one of America’s “most welcoming places” by MakeMyMove in 2024.

Approximately 6,800 applications have been submitted since the city launched its’ relocation initiative and Texarkana has seen several residents from multiple states move including Florida, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Montana, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, California, and Georgia.

“Texarkana’s success goes far beyond its dual-state geography,” Rob Sitterley, President and CEO of AR-TX REDI said. “It’s about the people, the partnerships, and the shared vision we have for building a vibrant and inclusive community. We don’t just bring in new residents—we help them thrive.”

The Texas-Arkansas border allows new residents in Texarkana the opportunity to choose between the two states giving them choices in unique benefits. Arkansas offers a lower cost of living while Texas offers no state income taxes.

Texarkana makes sure each new resident feels not only welcomed but supported. The Ready Set Move program offers new residents higher education, career development and community integration.

“One of our movers lost his remote job shortly after arriving. Instead of leaving, we connected him with a new local employer within days,” Sitterley said. “That’s what this program is about—creating real opportunity and community.”

The program has already represented 12 individuals with a collective average income of over $100K.
