LIST: East Texas cities host spring clean-up events

TYLER, Texas (KETK) — East Texans can participate in various cleaning events, including the Don’t Mess With Texas Trash-Off event, to help make spring cleaning easier and dispose of litter.

Items not accepted:

  • hazardous waste
  • pesticides
  • herbicides
  • solvents
  • gasoline
  • oils
  • acid
  • batteries
  • asbestos
  • wet paint
  • freon
  • whole tires
  • televisions
  • computers
  • refrigerators
  • freezers

Mattresses will be charged unless residents have a voucher that allows them to throw away one free mattress with a box spring. $50 will be charged per additional mattress.

The Greenwood Farms Landfill is open from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Their phone number is 800-678-7274.

  • Tyler residents can also participate in the Great Tyler Cleanup on April 12. This annual event encourages volunteers in East Texas to help dispose of litter. The event will be hosted by Keep Tyler Beautiful.

Gilmer

  • Spring Clean-Up is going on Tues. through Thurs. on the west side of U.S. Highway 271. Gilmer residents will be limited to one truckload of brush or trash per household.

Angelina County

  • An Angelina Beautiful Clean will be offering a free day at the landfill in April to help keep the county clean on April 5 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
