Legacy High School teacher receives award for going above and beyond

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — This wasn’t any ordinary day for one local biology teacher at Legacy High School.

That’s because Josh Nielson’s class was interrupted on the morning of March 21, as he was awarded the second-ever Roberta Faulkner Sund Award for going above and beyond inside and outside the classroom.

Nielson has been teaching for more than two decades beginning his teaching career at Kirby Middle School before teaching at Rider, and even Hirschi, and now at Legacy.

Nielson was shocked to receive the award, but he says his passion for teaching future generations motivates him to keep going.

“I do like it because I get to teach about stuff I like. This is not a class that everybody wants to take. It’s a class that they have to take. So I definitely want to try and make it so that they enjoy their time in my room. And so I just do that; I love just being able to talk about stuff. And sometimes, they accidentally learn things,” Nielson said.

In addition to the plaque and balloons, Nielson was also awarded one thousand dollars, and of course, we here at KFDX want to congratulate him on all he has done for students over the years.
