WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — More than 200 high school students from across the region got a firsthand look at careers in healthcare during a special tour on Friday, March 21, at Midwestern State University.

Hosted by MSU in partnership with the North Central Area Health Education Center (AHEC), the healthcare high school tour provided students with an interactive glimpse into the world of health science programs.

The event featured hands-on activities, demonstrations, and discussions with medical professionals.

AHEC Director Sarah Long said the goal is to expose students to the many opportunities available in healthcare and give them real-world experience.

They even got a chance to use simulation equipment, which provided a realistic look at patient care scenarios. For many students, like Bailey Castorena, an aspiring radiologist technician, the event was an eye-opener.

“I really like the how they have all the dummies and that they let you practice with them by yourself, like I just gave an orange an injection,” Castorena said.

MSU reps emphasized the importance of early exposure. They hope that this tour will inspire some of the students to attend MSU’s programs so we can continue to grow the medical community in our own backyard.

With the growing need for healthcare workers nationwide, events like this are helping to shape the next generation of medical professionals.
