Arlington zoning commission vote puts all of National Medal of Honor Museum within Glory Park

During its March 5 meeting, the Arlington Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved an amendment to the Glory Park development boundary to rezone roughly 1.508 acres to fully include the National Medal of Honor Museum on AT&T Way within its boundary. The National Medal of Honor Museum is scheduled to open March 25, also known as National Medal of Honor Day.The affected property is located north of East Sanford Street and west of Ballpark Way and was zoned Entertainment District Overlay-Community Commercial. The change allows for the entire site for the National Medal of Honor Museum to be located within one zoning district, rather than split zoned and follow two different standards, the city said. The museum was designed by renowned architect Rafael Viñoly and sits on a 5-acre site near other major Arlington Entertainment District attractions such as Six Flags Over Texas, AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field, Choctaw Stadium and Esports Stadium Arlington. Its 101,000-square-foot footprint will encompass 25,000 square feet of exhibition galleries, a state-of-the-art education center, conference and event space, along with an outdoor amphitheater for ceremonies. The National Medal of Honor Museum will have a preopening public event, Mission to Inspire Spectacular, at 7 p.m. March 22. The free event will treat attendees to a variety of attractions, including fireworks, a drone show and live performances.City Council members are set to vote on the zoning change March 25.
