ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – Central ISD has proposed a $33 million bond to improve campuses and prepare students for their futures after high school.
Central ISD Superintendent Justin Risner plans to use the money to improve campuses and prepare students to become successful adults once they graduate by preparing them for the workforce.
“We want to prepare our students for when they leave to enter the work environment and so that they are comfortable,” Risner said. “When you have outdated equipment and older facilities it is harder to do. The nursing industry is changing daily, the welding industry and all of our industries or more technology oriented, so we need to update or facilities, so our kids are prepared to step in and be productive.”
Risner said the district is looking into making upgrades to the special education building, including adding another kitchen to teach students life skills before they graduate.
“We want to upgrade these facilities so we can make sure there is a generation taking care of us.” Risner said.
Additional plans for the district include renovating the parking lot, adding additional roads to ease the traffic flow problem and creating a new maintenance and operations building.
Risner encourages anyone skeptical of the district’s need for renovations to speak to him and take a tour of the district campuses to view the day to day issues students and teachers face.
This is the second time that Risner has attempted to get a bond for Central ISD. Last year he applied for a $28.4 million bond which was rejected by voters.
