Edinburg man sentenced to 40 years for fatal shooting
An Edinburg man was sentenced to 40 years earlier this month after being charged with murder after a body was found in the trunk of his vehicle, according to a news release from the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office.
Gerardo Gonzalez, 24, pleaded guilty to the murder of Salvador Sanchez on Feb. 3 and was sentenced to 40 years in prison that same day.
On May 3, 2021, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting shots fired.
When deputies arrived, they found a vehicle with emergency lights on and bloodstains on the exterior of the vehicle.
Inside the vehicle, deputies found a black shotgun on the rear passenger seat.
Salvador’s body was found inside the trunk of the vehicle with a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to the release.
“Senseless acts of violence will not be tolerated in Hidalgo County and I am glad to see that justice was done for Salvador Sanchez and his family,” Hidalgo County District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios said in the release.
