Fort Worth’s Four Day Weekend seeks new home after six-month stay in Near Southside
Seven months after Four Day Weekend left downtown Fort Worth and began performing at a Near Southside theater, the improv comedy group is again seeking a new local venue. The group’s six-month residency with Stage West Theatre at 821 W. Vickery Blvd. will conclude with a final show Feb. 28. Four Day Weekend is working to find a new home in Fort Worth, according to a Feb. 10 announcement on Facebook.“Please hang tight as we continue to finalize plans. We will keep you posted!” the group wrote.
The move will be the beloved comedy troupe’s second in less than a year. In May 2024, Four Day Weekend learned from Sundance Square Management that the comedy company would not have the opportunity to renew its lease at 312 Houston St. The former Caravan of Dreams theater became the group’s home one year after their 1997 inception and continued to serve as their base for nearly three decades. David Wilk, a founding member of the comedy group, previously told the Report he was not informed why the Sundance lease was not renewed. In August, Four Day Weekend found a home less than 2 miles from downtown at Stage West.Four Day Weekend only planned to perform at Stage West for a few months as the theater has educational programming in the spring, Wilk told the Report Monday. “They were so kind and generous to give us one of their theaters to put our show in,” Wilk said. “I can’t say enough nice things about them. It was just bending over backwards trying to help us survive and continue the show.” Dana Schultes, executive producer of Stage West, said the pairing was not sustainable long term since the theater is a nonprofit and Four Day Weekend is a for-profit company. Either way, the team at Stage West has loved having them, she added. “They’re the most professional, fantastic group of performers that we could have ever hoped to pair with,” she said. “My hope is that they’re going to find a permanent home, because anyone who can house them would be very lucky.” Four Day Weekend will host Fort Worth-area pop-up shows throughout March in the interim. The group will host shows March 8 and 15 at Farr Best Theater in Mansfield followed by another round of pop-ups March 22, March 29 and April 5 at Casa Mañana’s Reid Cabaret Theatre. Tickets can be purchased here.Four Day Weekend hopes to share an update after the run of pop-up shows, Wilk said. The comedy club’s commitment to Fort Worth has not changed — finding a new space locally remains a priority.“We’re looking for our forever home. We did it for 27 years in Sundance Square and we’re looking for the next 27 years,” Wilk said.David Moreno is the arts & culture reporter for the Fort Worth Report.
