Clay County Commissioners support legislative funding for ambulance services
CLAY COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) — Clay County Commissioners passed a resolution supporting legislative funding for rural ambulance services.
Right now, Clay County Memorial Hospital currently funds two full-time crews from 10 a.m. To 10 p.m. The county staffs one ambulance from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m.
County Judge Mike Campbell said financial reports show funding two full-time crews cost over a million dollars.
Texas Senator Charles Perry knows rural areas are in crisis.
“We’ve got, counties that can’t afford to replace ambulances. I’m working on a grant program to, determine in those areas that are void of aimless EMS services on a regional level,” Perry said.
Last session, lawmakers passed Senate Bill 22. The bill funds a grant program to help rural law enforcement agencies.
Campbell believes a similar program can be funded for ambulance assistance.
