The Mercedes Independent School District named Benjamin Clinton, the current deputy superintendent for Raymondville ISD, as the lone finalist for superintendent.
Clinton was named the lone finalist during a special meeting held on Saturday.
“I am deeply honored to be named lone finalist for the Superintendent of Schools position with Mercedes ISD,” Clinton said in a news release. “I eagerly look forward to becoming a part of the Mercedes community and working together with the Board of Trustees, parents, and community members to help every student reach their fullest potential.”
Clinton holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Lamar University-Beaumont; a master’s in educational administration from Lamar University-Beaumont; and a bachelor’s in economics from Rice University.
Clinton has also served in different capacities in his career in education from special programs director, curriculum and instruction facilitator, principal, educator and coach.
“It is my distinct honor and privilege to announce Dr. Benjamin Clinton has been named the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools,” Board President Marcos Garcia said in a news release. “Dr. Clinton was selected after an extensive search that attracted many highly qualified applicants from across the region and the state.”
The board must now wait 21 days before offering a contract to Clinton due to state law.
