Harlingen residents charged in fatal Brownsville shooting
Three Harlingen residents on Monday morning made a first appearance in Brownsville Municipal Court to face charges for the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man.
That hearing was broadcast on Facebook by the Brownsville Police Department and showed Allexsis Marie Street, 22, Kody Gonser, 20, and D’Marco Donez, 19, appearing before a judge who set bonds on charges of murder and engaging in organized criminal activity.
All three suspects received a $2 million in bonds. Street and Gonser face an additional charge of failure to report a felony.
The shooting happened on Friday at approximately 8:51 p.m. in the 9600 block of Anacua Street.
When officers arrived, they found Kevin Villafranca Torres unresponsive, but breathing. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was found on the southbound Frontage Road directly in front of 7077 N. Expressway 77/83.
He died on Saturday.
“Following a thorough investigation and collection of witness statements and footage at the scene, Officers obtained information regarding the suspect vehicle involved in the incident,” police said on Saturday.
That vehicle was a 2011 red Chevy Cruze that was registered at an address in the 1400 block of Vermont Drive in Harlingen.
At approximately 2:44 a.m. on Saturday, Brownsville and Harlingen police followed up at the residence and found the vehicle, which had bullet holes.
Police have not revealed why the suspect vehicle had bullet holes.
The Harlingen Police Department SWAT team and Brownsville police executed a search warrant and detained Street and Gosner, who have children together. Authorities also arrested Donez that day at another location in Harlingen.
No other information was immediately released.
