Cameron Co. detention officer accused of ‘inappropriate’ conduct with juvenile
A former supervision officer for Cameron County’s juvenile detention facility was arrested last month after investigators found he was having “inappropriate online conversations” with a former female juvenile, the Texas Juvenile Justice Department said in a news release Monday.
Andrew Lozoya, 24, was charged with the online solicitation of a minor and display of harmful material to a minor, charges tied to allegations that he had “engaging in inappropriate online conversations with a female juvenile after her release from” the same facility where he worked, the Darrell B. Hester Juvenile Justice Center in San Benito.
The Office of the Inspector General’s County Investigative Unit and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation leading to Lozoya’s arrest.
The case is also being prosecuted by that county’s district attorney’s office.
Lozoya, who was arrested on Sept. 22, is accused of holding the conversations “while working as a juvenile supervision officer” at the facility in May.
It’s unclear the manner and time in which Lozoya was no longer employed with the county following the allegations coming to light.
