Collins St.City officials said the undeveloped 3.24-acre lot is in a major transportation corridor. Home2 Suites is associated with Hilton Worldwide Holdings and the rezoning was requested by Irving-based Stonewood Hotels. The Planning & Zoning Commission approved the request June 6 with a 5-2 vote, asking Stonewood Hotels managing partner Hiren Desai to work on some design enhancements for the property before it was submitted for City Council approval. In addressing City Council Aug. 27, Desai said those suggestions enhanced the property.“First, I would like to thank all you guys for pushing us to elevate the design and take our team to places where we never imagined we would go and present to you what we truly see as an inspiration for other designs of our hotels,” Desai told council members. Mayor Jim Ross thanked Desai for his company’s efforts to listen to and act on the city’s recommendations.“You made significant, what I consider significant, changes in your property,” Ross said. “And you did exactly what we’d love to see developers come in here and do, so thank you for doing that.” In June, Desai told zoning commissioners that the site’s proximity to the airport was an important factor in the company wanting to locate a hotel there. He said Stonewood has found success already in the Interstate 20 area. The area already contains an Aloft Hotel south of the site. A Murphy’s gas station/convenience store, a Dutch Bros Coffee shop and a Chipotle restaurant also are located nearby. Under a hotel classification system adopted in 2019, the Home2 Suites would be classified as an upper-midscale hotel. The Home2 Suites is an all-suite hotel that will include a total of 134 guest rooms, with the average room size of 414 square feet, according to city documents. The hotel chain said there will be four different room types: King Studio; ADA King One Bedroom; Queen Studio; and King One Bedroom. The first floor will have 14 guest rooms with floors two through five having 30 rooms each.Every room will include a separate living area, a business/workspace area, a microwave, a dishwater, a kitchen sink, a full-size refrigerator, an induction cooktop and dinnerware. All guest rooms will have high speed internet service and a safe deposit box. The Home2 Suites will employ an estimated 30 people, according to city documents. The hotel’s first floor also will include a 3,000-square-foot lobby, a business center, 1,000 square feet of meeting space, a 674-square-foot fitness center, a guest laundry area, a luggage hold area, a pool, grilling area and restrooms. At the Arlington Report, news decisions are made independently of our board members and financial supporters.
