Trans woman wins Florida legislative primary
Ashley Brundage won her Democratic primary to run in the November election for a Florida House seat. If she wins, she will become the first out transgender woman to serve in the Florida Legislature.
The seat is in the Tampa area and is currently represented by a Republican, but in 2020 the district overwhelmingly voted for Joe Biden.
According to her LGBTQ Victory Fund profile, Brundage is “a seasoned professional with a proven track record in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, is running for State House. With a background in financial services and advocacy for small businesses, Ashley brings a unique perspective and dedication to serving the people of Florida. Through leadership roles in various organizations and her unwavering commitment to social progress, Ashley aims to create a more equitable and prosperous future for all Floridians.
