When SiNaCa Studios School of Glass and Gallery asked for help raising $75,000 to meet a budget shortfall, the community responded with more than $85,000 in donations.“It’s a huge relief,” said Clifton Crofford, the studio’s founder and executive director. The studio recently made cuts to its staff and announced a change to its business model in order to reduce its reliance on grants and funding from foundations. The donations help fill an urgent budget shortfall during the studio’s slow summer season. However, for the studio to carry out its plan moving forward, SiNaCa hopes to raise another $75,000 ahead of the Glass Art Society conference where it hopes to put its best foot forward next year. The conference, which draws glass artists from around the world, will be held in Arlington and Fort Worth in May.Crofford credits the marketing veterans at The Ethos Project and his staff for helping to relay the studio’s story and place in the community.“This is really the first step toward us finding that kind of support for growth,” Crofford said, “so that we can continue to amplify glassmaking.” Marcheta Fornoff covers arts and culture for the Fort Worth Report.
