Let me start by saying I love being from Fort Worth. Rich in duality, the city has a Western history alongside modern advancements and new developments.

Although I grew up in west Fort Worth, I’ve lived in four different homes with each neighborhood having its own culture and characteristics. I currently live in an apartment near the Hulen Mall in southwest Fort Worth.

The first benefit to my neighborhood is the cost. This is my first time living on my own since college, so when I was browsing the housing market, affordability was my main concern.

With reasonably priced rent, The Haven at Chisholm Trail attracts a variety of residents. In the year and a half that I have lived in the complex, I’ve met a family of six, a couple in their mid-30s, a couple with a young daughter and a multigenerational family in my building alone.

That same diversity can be seen throughout my entire neighborhood and is reflected in the numerous food options.

Another advantage to living in the Hulen area of Fort Worth is accessibility. Shopping, restaurants, entertainment and exercise facilities are less than a five-minute drive away — and you can be on Interstate 20 in less than that.

Despite the convenience of living near Hulen, no place is perfect. My least favorite characteristic is the traffic. Anyone who lives in a metropolitan area likely can attest to the frustration of being stuck at a red light behind 20 cars for seemingly forever.

More than that, though, I’m referring to foot traffic. With so many businesses and bus stops throughout the neighborhood, people can be found walking up and down Hulen at all hours of the day. In spite of the activity, as a single female in my early 20s, I do not feel unsafe.

All in all, I love my neighborhood and I am proud to represent this part of Fort Worth.
