McAllen police Lt. Joel Morales said in a news release that a suspect “tentatively” identified as Carlos Antonio Cardenas of Alamo was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges.

Police were responding to the motel, located in the 700 block of Expressway 83 in McAllen, at around 6:25 a.m. after receiving a “disturbance in progress” call. A woman at the motel said a man “came to the front desk bleeding” but didn’t want to call police and said that if she informed authorities “they will kill her too.”

She also told police that “someone is on second floor in (stairways) by the pool, [that the] male is trying to get into the front desk, [is] possibly intoxicated, they have weapons,” according to Morales.

When police arrived they found a man on the ground and another man “with a knife,” later identified as Cardenas. The man found on the ground, in the parking lot, and another man on the second floor of the motel were victims of a stabbing, police said.

The two people who were found stabbed in the parking lot and second floor died at the scene. Although police have not yet identified them, they did describe the victims as a 45-year-old Black man from Richmond Virginia and a 42-year-old Hispanic man.

Police said they’ll be identified when their next of kin are notified.

Autopsies were ordered for the victims while a report for the third and surviving person is pending investigation.

Morales also said that drug paraphernalia was found at the motel and seized.

Cardenas, who police said “refused to identify himself,” was transported to a healthcare facility for emergency medical care and was released.
