The City of South Padre Island announced improvements to Island Metro bus shelters are under way, with the addition of 17 shelters on South Padre Island and in Port Isabel.
Island Metro will temporarily relocate some stops while the new ones are assembled.
Routes for the most part will not see any significant changes. Island Metro will move the bus stops temporarily to the nearest parking lot or adjacent to the current location.
Construction begins Jan. 24. Anyone with questions can call City Hall at (956) 761-8178.
Temporary bus shelter locations are located at:
>> Las Palmas Shopping Center (Church’s Chicken) — Port Isabel;
>> Walmart — Port Isabel;
>> Laguna Madre Youth Center — Port Isabel;
>> Move It Storage (Basin Street) — Port Isabel;
>> Casa Rosa Hotel — Port Isabel;
>> Washington Street — Port Isabel;
>> Museum — Port Isabel;
>> 410 Plaza — South Padre Island.
