Welcome to Holidays 2020
As we do every year around this time, we have put together a Holidays-themed issue to celebrate all the good stuff happening (and that’s for sale) around North Texas and to prepare ourselves for the greatness that will be 2021: a potential vaccine, a fresh outlook, and, most importantly, a chance to come together and heal. Putting all of the divisiveness of the past few years behind us, we can focus on what brings us together instead of what divides us. And there’s no better time for coming together (as long as we’re 6 feet apart) than the holidays.
And here we are, offering you an issue chock full of all sorts of juicy info and stories. From a look at local nonprofits to the hottest video games and seasonal drink recipes, the Fort Worth Weekly’s annual Holidays issue has you covered. (Big props to coverguy Tony Green. Feliz Navidad, man.)
Part of the festivities around these parts this year include the National Finals Rodeo. Taking place at Globe Life Field in Arlington from Friday thru Dec 12, the “Super Bowl of rodeo” also features Cowboy Christmas, a shopping extravaganza with live entertainment. Best of all, NFR gives us the opportunity to dust off our cowboy hats and so some socially distant mingling. (NFR will be following strict safety measures throughout the event.)
And we know Fort Worth will show up and show out, so allow us to point newcomers to Fort Worth and environs in the right direction. For some boot scootin’, the Stockyards offer a plethora of fun locales, especially the new Mule Alley section. For some youthful exuberance, pilot the Uber driver to the West 7th or West Exchange, and for either a dive-bar experience or a fancy craft cocktail, the Near Southside’s West Magnolia Avenue or South Main Village are here for you. Wherever you go, practice social distancing and wear a mask. Keeping others safe is the best way to keep yourself free from harm. Happy Holidays! — Anthony Mariani
